After a visit to my son at the restaurant where he works (two of his colleagues thanked me for him!), I wander out for a stroll in town. It’s darker now, and the evening feels weirdly adventurous.
At a nearby cafe (La Mama, adorable and delicious) I find the ultimate vegan chocolate chip cookie and proceed to savor it slowly on this quiet street. It’s getting late. James is away, nobody’s looking for me.
Then I realize my heart’s been reorganized; I actually like myself again.
